HENRY BARTON

HENRY BARTON

Born In Auckland From a skiing family background, I started skiing at the age of 4 at Mt Ruapehu, Turoa. Turoa holds a special place in my heart and I have many fond memories of ripping around the mountain as a little kid and I will always be thankful. I joined the Ski Team in 2016 when I was in school and started to participate in a few race competitions and trained every week at Snowplanet in Auckland.

In 2019 I decided to transition to freestyle as it appealed to me more than racing and found it more enjoyable. I only had 6 weeks of training in freestyle and the rest I figured out myself. I then competed in the K2 North Island Secondary School Freestyle competition and got 2nd place which I was pretty stoked with. In 2021 I moved down to Wanaka for the winter and started working for Cardrona as a ski instructor which further helped progress my skiing.

Since then I have come back to Wanaka every season and love the challenge that Cardrona parks bring. My Skiing has improved greatly over the course of these 3 seasons in Wanaka and I still go skiing every chance I get. Last year I got 78 days of riding and hopefully more this year.

My goals for this year would be to further progress in the freestyle and freeride aspect and hopefully compete and win at the Mt Olympus Freeride Open. Overall I am always smiling from ear to ear anytime up the hill and always try to bring a unique and fresh approach to my skiing.
